TL;DR
Field Service Engineer (Medtech): Setting up, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing pathology and diagnostic equipment for customer demonstrations, training sessions, and workflow simulations with an accent on electromechanical systems, software, networking, calibration, and quality compliance. Focus on diagnosing complex technical issues, preparing reliable demo assets, and supporting field service activities across customer and commercial environments.

Location: Dusseldorf, Germany, with regular presence expected in Nussloch, Germany. Field-based work includes travel to customer sites, the Newcastle demo laboratory, training activities, and occasional North America travel during the training period.

What you will do

  • Set up, operate, maintain, and optimize Leica Biosystems systems for customer demonstrations, training, and workflow simulations.
  • Prepare, inspect, verify, and troubleshoot demonstration, loan, and field-returned equipment.
  • Manage equipment configuration, calibration, verification, upgrades, and readiness checks, including accessories and software.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across electromechanical systems, electronics, optics, software, and network-connected components.
  • Perform maintenance, repairs, modifications, and quality verification in line with applicable standards.
  • Collaborate with workshop, sales, applications, product specialist, service, and training teams to deliver reliable demonstrations.

Requirements

  • Biomedical or engineering experience with an associate degree, or equivalent technical work experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electromechanical and electronic systems, optics, platforms, and software.
  • Knowledge of PC hardware, networking principles, firmware updates, software installation, and system connectivity.
  • Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences and collaborate across international teams.
  • Fluent English and German are required for professional customer communication.
  • Ability to work in a workshop and technical service environment, including handling and movement of equipment, is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining pathology instruments or similar scientific and clinical equipment.
  • Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience working with ISO, FDA, or similar quality requirements in a regulated environment.
  • Customer-centric mindset and interest in continuous improvement and service efficiency.
