Sr Engineer I, Advanced Process Control (APC) Engineer (Refining)

Location: Billings, Montana, United States; onsite at the Billings Refinery

Salary: $141,300–$172,000 base salary per year

What you will do

• Design, implement, tune, and optimize advanced process control applications using Honeywell Forge APC and related tools.
• Monitor APC performance, analyze key performance indicators, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate corrective actions with process engineering, operations, and process control teams.
• Develop and maintain dynamic process models, gasoline blending models, APC applications, control strategies, and equipment specifications.
• Create APC documentation, standards, safe work practices, and training materials; lead Management of Change activities and periodic application audits.
• Analyze process and APC data to identify opportunities and quantify improvements in energy use, margin, throughput, yield, and reliability.
• Lead or contribute to small and medium APC projects from concept through startup while mentoring less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• Legal authorization to work in the United States is required; temporary visa holders and candidates requiring current or future sponsorship are not eligible.
• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
• At least 5 years of combined experience in process engineering/design, process control, or advanced process control in refining, petrochemical, manufacturing, or a related industry.
• Ability to work safely around hot, high-pressure equipment, chemicals, hydrocarbons, harsh weather, ladders and stairs up to 200 feet, and required personal protective equipment.
• Willingness to travel up to 5%, participate in occasional on-call duties, and work extended hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to transport articles up to 50 pounds and maintain facial-hair requirements for respirator or face-mask sealing.

Nice to have

• 7 or more years of relevant experience and knowledge of refinery processes such as distillation, reforming, hydrotreating, alkylation, fluid catalytic cracking, hydrocracking, or sulfur processing.
• Experience with dynamic process modeling, Honeywell Forge APC or equivalent multivariable control technology, and Emerson DeltaV DCS.
• Experience leading process control or APC projects from design through startup.
• Strong communication, collaboration, mentoring, and independent problem-solving skills.
