Process Design Engineer II/III (Refining)

Location: Robinson, Illinois, United States. Relocation is approved. Schedule options include full in-office, hybrid with four office days and one work-from-home day per week, or a 9/80 schedule. Additional hours may be required for turnaround and outage support.

Salary: $106,900–$184,300 per year.

What you will do

• Identify refinery optimization opportunities to increase throughput, improve yields and reliability, and optimize energy or water use.
• Develop process designs for new projects and unit modifications, including PFDs, P&IDs, and heat and material balances.
• Perform process simulations, equipment sizing, hydraulic analysis, and energy optimization calculations.
• Lead economic analyses and establish project rates of return.
• Collaborate with project engineers, operations, and external vendors to align designs with operational needs.
• Prepare process design packages and support HAZOPs, LOPA studies, and other safety reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.
• At least two years of process engineering experience in refining or heavy industry.
• Must be legally authorized to work full-time in the United States indefinitely without current or future employment visa sponsorship.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to wear appropriate refinery PPE and perform field duties.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
• Process modeling experience with Petrosim or similar tools such as MySep and KG Tower.

Nice to have

• Four or more years of process engineering experience in refining or heavy industry.
• Two or more years of project or process design experience.
