Space Mechanical Design Intern

Location: Onsite five days per week at the Torrance, California headquarters in the Los Angeles area; remote and hybrid arrangements are not available.

Salary: $34 per hour. Relocation and housing stipend included.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and test space radiator hardware.
• Develop manufacturing approaches for scaling radiator technology from test coupons to full-scale hardware.
• Design and develop power conversion components, including recuperators, primary heat exchangers, and piping.
• Support integration of space power conversion systems and contribute to reactor mechanical design.
• Perform microgrid analyses, deployment assessments, and concepts of operation for candidate applications.
• Translate customer use cases into technical requirements and expand technoeconomic analyses for reactor deployment scenarios.

Requirements

• Enrolled in at least a bachelor's degree program and entering the junior or senior year.
• Prior internship experience or more than one year of significant project, laboratory, or research experience.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and technical communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments in a dynamic environment.
• GPA of 3.5 or above preferred.
• Must satisfy U.S. Government export-control eligibility requirements: U.S. citizenship or nationality, U.S. lawful permanent residence, refugee or asylee status, or eligibility to obtain the required authorizations.
