Tooling/Ground Support Engineering Intern (Summer 2027)

Location: Onsite in Redondo Beach, California, for the duration of the 12-week internship

Compensation: $30.00 per hour, with overtime eligibility

What you will do

• Support the design, development, and implementation of tooling, fixturing, and ground support equipment for metallic and composite spacecraft structures.
• Design and develop test equipment and fixtures for validating flight hardware.
• Create and update CAD models, drawings, and assemblies for tooling and support equipment.
• Collaborate with designers, analysts, engineers, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to move tooling from design through fabrication and implementation.
• Perform hands-on assembly, testing, troubleshooting, modification, inspection, and measurement of tooling and test equipment.
• Resolve technical challenges with fast, innovative, and resourceful solutions.

Requirements

• Completion of or active enrollment in an engineering or science degree program.
• Knowledge of basic mechanics, materials, and manufacturing principles.
• Ability to take ownership of projects and work effectively in a small team.
• Familiarity with CAD software, GD&T, dimensioning, and tolerancing.
• Must be willing and able to work onsite in Redondo Beach, California, for the full internship.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain required U.S. authorizations under ITAR regulations.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with machining, fabrication, welding, or composite manufacturing.
• Experience designing or building tooling, fixtures, test equipment, or mechanical hardware.
• Familiarity with MATLAB, Excel, or similar analysis tools.
• Experience with accelerometers, strain gauges, load cells, or other test instrumentation.
