Avionics Mechanical Engineering Intern (Aerospace)

Location: On-site in Redondo Beach, California, for the duration of the 12-week internship

Compensation: $32.00 per hour; overtime may be required and is paid

What you will do

• Design, manufacture, and test mechanical elements for spacecraft avionics systems and devices.
• Evaluate requirements, create CAD designs and drawings, and participate in cross-disciplinary design reviews.
• Design for manufacturability and coordinate with suppliers to fabricate parts.
• Perform hand calculations and FEA to predict structural and thermal performance.
• Analyze structural modes, heat transfer, and other critical avionics device characteristics.
• Develop build processes and collaborate with technicians to improve work instructions.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience designing mechanical components in CAD software.
• Understanding of static loads, heat transfer, and fabrication methods such as CNC milling and 3D printing.
• Hands-on familiarity with basic shop tools and the ability to communicate technical challenges and resolve concerns.
• Must be willing and able to work on-site in Redondo Beach, California, throughout the internship.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the authorizations required under ITAR regulations.

Nice to have

• Experience with NX and Ansys Mechanical.
• Understanding of EMI shielding design, vibrations, and vibration analysis.
• Experience collaborating in teams combining mechanical and electrical engineers.
