Software Test Engineer (QA Automation)

Location: Remote within the United States, or hybrid for candidates local to San Mateo, California

Salary: $120,000–$135,000 per year

What you will do

• Perform functional, exploratory, sanity, and end-to-end testing across mobile and web applications using physical devices, emulators, and simulators.
• Design, build, and maintain automated regression tests for web and mobile applications.
• Validate REST API contracts, authentication, status codes, error handling, and edge cases independently of the user interface.
• Create test cases from requirements and maintain traceability between acceptance criteria, requirements, and test results.
• Use AI tools for test generation, automation scripting, log analysis, and debugging, and test AI-powered product features.
• Manage defects and release readiness by documenting reproduction steps, analyzing results, and reporting remaining risks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 1–3 years of hands-on experience in both manual software testing and test automation.
• Experience with Playwright and JavaScript for web testing, and Appium with Java or Python for mobile testing.
• Experience testing REST APIs with tools such as Postman.
• Practical use of AI tools in engineering work, with the judgment to verify AI-generated output.
• Experience with mobile device tooling, version control, and CI/CD test execution; clear technical documentation skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Software as a Medical Device or other regulated software environments.
• Knowledge of design controls, ISO 13485, IEC 62304, or requirements traceability matrices.
• Experience with BrowserStack and familiarity with performance, accessibility, or security testing.
• Basic scripting or tooling experience to improve testing efficiency.
