Senior Manager Software Engineering (AI Agent Platforms)

Location: Hybrid in Oak Brook, Illinois, United States

Salary: $129,700–$226,900 annual base pay, plus benefits, 401(k) contribution, and eligibility for a short-term incentive plan.

What you will do

• Own the vision and roadmap for Builder Tools that help engineering teams scale AI adoption.
• Lead the design and delivery of a governed Agent Platform, including cloud agents, non-human identities, MCP gateways, code indexing, SkillTree, and artifact storage.
• Ship and operate production self-healing agents for incident triage, fixes, and monitoring within defined eligibility and safety policies.
• Close telemetry and correlation gaps across Datadog, OpenTelemetry, cloud, video, mobile, firmware, and hardware systems.
• Own token and compute cost governance, platform-health metrics, adoption reporting, and executive roadmap communication.
• Manage and guide Forward Deployed Engineers while partnering with engineering leadership and AI engineers on platform adoption and hardware-specific needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, engineering, or a related field; an applicable advanced degree may substitute for up to two years of experience.
• 7+ years of software or platform engineering experience, including 2+ years leading or managing a technical team.
• Hands-on production experience building or operating LLM- or agent-based systems.
• Experience with internal developer platforms, CI/CD systems, paved-road tooling, MCP architectures, agent runtimes, or tool gateways.
• Experience with OpenTelemetry, cross-system trace correlation, non-human identity and access models, AWS and/or Azure, and modern DevOps tooling.
• Strong communication skills for translating platform strategy to engineering and executive stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience operating a production-scale code or knowledge index, embeddings-based code search, or RAG over a codebase.
• Production developer-tooling experience with Anthropic Claude, Claude Code, or comparable coding assistants.
• Familiarity with IoT and connected-device telemetry such as MQTT, Memfault, or embedded crash reporting.
