Principal Harness Design Engineer (HPM)

Location: Torrance, California, United States. The role is subject to ITAR requirements and requires U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected-individual status, or eligibility to obtain the required U.S. authorizations.

Salary: $154,100–$179,800 USD annually for California hires.

What you will do

• Lead electrical harness architectures and detailed harness designs for high-power microwave systems.
• Define shielding, grounding, power distribution, signal pathing, and other harness guidance for high-EMI environments.
• Select connectors, cables, wiring, strain relief features, and shield termination hardware.
• Create and maintain system block diagrams, interconnect schematics, 3D CAD routing models, and production drawings.
• Collaborate with engineering, production, quality, product management, and manufacturing vendors.
• Support prototyping, deployment, harness assembly, inspections, testing, and on-site troubleshooting.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of experience designing interconnect systems for harsh-environment defense, aerospace, or industrial platforms.
• Experience optimizing harness systems for voltage drop, thermal performance, component derating, EMI, interference, and crosstalk.
• Proficiency with wiring diagrams, interconnect documentation, and Altium Harness Design or similar software such as Zuken, Siemens Capital, or CATIA Electrical.
• Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620, J-STD-001, SAE AS50881, NASA-STD-8739.4, GD&T, and ASME Y14.5 drawing standards.
• Must meet the stated U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ethernet, CAN, RS-422, high-voltage or three-phase AC design.
• CAD experience with SolidWorks or similar tools.
• Hands-on harness assembly and harness test procedure development experience.
• Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 and harsh-environment considerations.
