Senior Scientist, Immunology

Location: South San Francisco, California; frequent onsite presence required. Candidates must be within commutable distance or able to self-relocate.

What you will do

• Design and execute innovative in vitro and in vivo studies focused on inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
• Identify and validate drug targets, biomarkers, and immune pathways for immunology programs.
• Develop and optimize cellular, biochemical, and functional immunological assays using primary immune cells, patient-derived samples, and disease-relevant models.
• Analyze complex cellular, molecular, pharmacological, and translational datasets to generate decision-enabling insights.
• Communicate findings through internal presentations, cross-functional updates, conferences, and publications.
• Collaborate with pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, protein engineering, computational biology, translational science, clinical development, business development, and corporate strategy teams.

Requirements

• PhD preferred, or MS/BS with significant relevant experience, in immunology, cellular and molecular biology, pharmacology, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of relevant industry experience with an MS, or 6+ years with an MS and 8+ years with a BS, in biotech/pharma drug discovery or translational research.
• Strong expertise in immune cell biology, innate and adaptive immunity, cell signaling, cytokine biology, and immunological assay development.
• Hands-on experience with tissue culture, flow cytometry, ELISA/MSD, RNA and protein analysis, qPCR/RNA-seq, Jess or related protein analysis platforms, and functional genomics.
• Experience with primary murine or human immune cells, patient-derived samples, and in vivo or ex vivo inflammation and autoimmunity models.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with small molecules, biologics, or cell-based therapeutic approaches.
• Expertise in multiparametric flow cytometry, including high-dimensional 15+ color panels.
• Experience with multiomics, translational biomarker strategy, PK/PD relationships, or preclinical-to-clinical bridge-building.
• Exposure to scientific diligence, external opportunity assessment, or competitive landscape evaluation.
