TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer II (Spacecraft) (Aerospace): Developing high-performance, lightweight satellite deployment systems, mechanisms, and spacecraft bus configurations with an accent on component ownership, CAD-based product definition, and mechanical analysis. Focus on designing components from concept through production and operation, performing hand calculations and FEA, and leading manufacturing and test reviews.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States. U.S. citizenship is required, and active Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI is required. U.S. Government ITAR eligibility requirements apply.

Base pay: $132,000–$198,000 USD annually for California.

What you will do

  • Develop high-performance, lightweight satellite systems, mechanisms, deployment systems, and spacecraft bus configurations.
  • Support proposals, business development activities, and mission concepts, including high-value science and interplanetary missions.
  • Own component designs from conceptual development through production, testing, and operation.
  • Perform hand calculations and FEA to guide mechanical design decisions.
  • Lead component design, manufacturing, and test reviews while managing schedules, vendors, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Create and maintain CAD models, production drawings, product definitions, and test and operations procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, or another engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience with CAD modeling and technical drawings.
  • Active Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI.
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility to access ITAR-regulated technology are required.

Nice to have

  • Master’s or PhD in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
  • Spacecraft or satellite design and satellite deployment systems experience.
  • Hands-on development, testing, and interpretation of thermal or vibration test data.
  • Experience with GD&T, requirements assessments, interface control documents, and spacecraft systems engineering.
  • Ability to take products from concept through production autonomously.
