Staff Software Developer (Canada Tax)

Location: Toronto, Canada

Base pay: $164,500–$222,500 annually in Toronto, with potential cash bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the technical vision and strategy for the Canada tax content domain across professional and consumer tax software.
• Interpret CRA and provincial tax law and translate compliance requirements into production-quality C# and Java software.
• Lead complex initiatives involving technical design, cross-system dependencies, risk management, and long-term maintainability.
• Design automated testing and regression strategies, lead code reviews, and reduce defect escape rates.
• Drive AI-assisted development, automated test generation, compliance mapping, and guardrails for AI-generated code.
• Mentor engineers and Tax Analyst Programmers while coordinating work through Agile and Scrum practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science and/or Tax, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years analyzing, interpreting, or coding tax law and compliance requirements.
• 7+ years developing enterprise software in C# and/or Java, including object-oriented design and web services.
• Experience leading complex, ambiguous, cross-team technical initiatives through completion.
• Experience coaching and providing actionable feedback to senior-level engineers.
• Expert understanding of software best practices, agile development, and operational excellence.
