Staff Fullstack Engineer (Shopify)

Location: Remote within the United States and Canada

Salary: $175,000–$225,000 USD annually, varying by U.S. geographic market, location, skills, and experience.

What you will do

• Build and maintain Shopify checkout, thank-you, customer-account, and post-purchase extensions and the server-side logic behind hirify.global offers.
• Rebuild experimentation reporting for Smart Flows and A/B Testing, including data models, PHP and TypeScript endpoints, and BigQuery and MySQL queries.
• Design and implement secure REST APIs in PHP and TypeScript and integrate with Shopify through GraphQL.
• Investigate merchant-reported issues, analyze logs and metrics, resolve root causes, and participate in on-call rotation.
• Test features through unit and end-to-end suites and manually against real Shopify stores without handing QA off to another team.
• Contribute to technical decisions, code reviews, migrations, and platform-wide componentized systems.

Requirements

• Staff-level ownership, including driving technical decisions or migrations across multiple systems or teams.
• 8+ years of experience building production web applications with hands-on PHP and TypeScript with React.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in TypeScript or PHP and experience owning revenue-critical customer-facing systems.
• Experience with BigQuery or another columnar warehouse, analytical queries, MySQL schema design, and migrations.
• Knowledge of secure coding fundamentals and the OWASP Top 10 for payment flows and customer data.
• Ability to work remotely with high autonomy and remain responsive on Slack during working hours.

Nice to have

• Shopify app development, including Checkout Extensibility, post-purchase extensions, or Admin and Storefront GraphQL APIs.
• Experience with Preact or another tightly constrained runtime.
• Comfort working with Kanban and Sprint-based workflows.
