Advanced Manufacturing Technical Documentation Specialist

Location: Long Beach or Torrance, California, United States. The role combines office work with regular presence on active manufacturing floors and supports operations across multiple work centers, shifts, and facilities.

Salary: $100,170–$137,730 USD per year.

What you will do

• Develop, write, edit, and maintain SOPs, work instructions, process specifications, troubleshooting guides, equipment guides, checklists, and technical training materials.
• Translate complex manufacturing processes, technical requirements, lessons learned, and tribal knowledge into clear, actionable, reusable documentation.
• Work with engineers, technicians, programmers, operators, quality, document control, and operations leaders to capture technical knowledge and determine documentation or training solutions.
• Develop Advanced Manufacturing Academy learning modules, practical exercises, visual aids, knowledge checks, and qualification criteria.
• Observe equipment operation, setup, inspection, troubleshooting, and employee training on the manufacturing floor to ensure technical accuracy.
• Lead documentation, training, process-improvement, and knowledge-management projects while improving standards, templates, workflows, revision control, and scalability.

Requirements

• Ability to lawfully access information and technology subject to US export controls.
• 5+ years of experience in technical writing, manufacturing documentation, technical training, engineering documentation, manufacturing operations, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Advanced knowledge of technical documentation development in manufacturing, engineering, or another technically demanding environment.
• Ability to independently manage complex assignments, extract knowledge from subject-matter experts, and convert ambiguous information into clear documentation.
• Strong written communication, technical interviewing, editing, organization, attention to detail, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, process flows, equipment documentation, specifications, and manufacturing terminology while managing multiple technical workstreams.

Nice to have

• Experience in aerospace, automotive, defense, advanced manufacturing, or another highly regulated manufacturing environment.
• Experience with technical training, qualification programs, technical academies, or learning management systems.
• Knowledge of CNC machining, automated assembly, robotics, surface processing, cleaning, inspection, metrology, or automation.
• Experience with document control, engineering change management, quality management systems, AS9100, or similar regulated manufacturing standards.
• Experience creating visual and multimedia content, developing documentation standards, or mentoring technical contributors.
