Operator – Hydroelectric Energy

Location: Kwalsa and/or Upper Lillooet site, British Columbia, Canada; on-site remote camp position with an 8-days-on, 6-days-off shift schedule and paid travel days.

Salary: $80,000–$102,000 per year, excluding fringe benefits and potential bonuses.

What you will do

• Monitor run-of-river hydroelectric power plants locally or remotely to maintain efficiency, reliability, and safe continuous operation.
• Respond to alarms, investigate operating anomalies, and ensure water is used in accordance with operating permits.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot equipment, and assist other trades and contractors.
• Interpret engineering drawings and documents and maintain accurate work orders, equipment logs, and operational records.
• Operate and maintain vehicles, tools, equipment, facilities, yards, and site infrastructure.
• Complete hazard assessments, participate in safety activities, and comply with company, regulatory, and ethical requirements.

Requirements

• 3–5+ years of experience in a related field.
• Red Seal Millwright certification, another relevant trade certification, or equivalent experience.
• Valid driver’s licence; Class 1 or 3 licence with airbrake endorsement is an asset.
• Experience interpreting engineering drawings and documents, using computer-based control applications, and working with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work independently at a remote industrial site in British Columbia, including outdoors in all weather, around water, on uneven ground, at heights, in confined spaces, and in loud environments.
• Ability to operate vehicles and equipment, move heavy items sometimes exceeding 50 lbs, prioritize changing circumstances, communicate effectively, and support other trades.

Nice to have

• Experience operating boats, snowmobiles, snowcats, chainsaws, backhoes, or excavators.
• Previous run-of-river hydroelectric facility experience.
• Fabrication and welding experience.
• Class 1 or 3 driver’s licence with airbrake endorsement.
