Highway/Traffic Transportation Engineer Internship – Summer 2027

Location: Hybrid in Pittsburgh, PA; Raleigh, NC; or Columbus, OH. Fieldwork and out-of-town travel for inspections are required.

Engineering consulting firm delivering transportation projects for public and private clients.

What you will do

• Assist with roadway geometric design, drainage design, and plan preparation.
• Support bridge, highway, and roadway inspection activities in the field.
• Enter field and project data into specialized software and Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
• Assemble inspection reports and other technical documents.
• Operate access equipment such as man-lifts, snoopers, and boats after proper training.
• Support technical staff on active transportation projects while progressively taking on more responsibility.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD; familiarity with OpenRoad Designer is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to perform fieldwork, including carrying ladders and equipment, working at heights, climbing, and working in varied weather conditions.
• Willingness to travel out of town for inspections.
• Strong technical, verbal, written communication, teamwork, and attention-to-detail skills.
