2027 Summer Intern - Civil Engineering, Aviation

Location: Bloomington, Minnesota, United States. Primarily office-based or assigned to project sites; occasional flexible or hybrid work arrangements may be available. Summer internship runs from Tuesday, May 25 through Friday, August 13, 2027, at 40 hours per week with occasional overtime.

Salary: $20–$24 per hour. Final compensation depends on anticipated graduation date.

What you will do

• Support civil engineering projects for general aviation airports, international hub airports, and military bases.
• Contribute to runway, taxiway, apron, utility, roadway, NAVAID, fueling facility, and security enhancement projects.
• Prepare detailed drawings using Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
• Perform calculations for project dimensions and elevations and compute and tabulate quantities.
• Assist with preliminary site assessments and construction administration, including inspections and observations.
• Work with civil engineers, planners, and technicians across project stages from conception through construction.

Requirements

• Undergraduate pursuing a bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a transportation emphasis.
• Previous experience or training with AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to contribute to technical reports and specifications.
• Ability to work outdoors on active construction sites and carry up to 40 pounds.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to travel for construction administration and site inspections.

• Understanding of drafting techniques and construction plan development.
• Coursework or experience in airport planning and design.
• Experience with staking, surveying, inspections, or observations.
