2027 Summer Intern - Structural Engineering, Buildings/Facilities

Location: Bloomington, Minnesota, United States; primarily on-site, with possible flexible or hybrid arrangements. The internship runs from Tuesday, May 25 through Friday, August 13, 2027, at 40 hours per week with occasional overtime. Local travel for project assignments, meetings, and site visits may be required.

Salary: $20–$24 per hour. The final rate depends on the anticipated graduation date.

What you will do

• Support structural design work for active building and facility projects.
• Develop structural models, floor plans, details, and construction documentation using AutoCAD and Revit.
• Expand practical knowledge of steel, cast-in-place concrete, and precast concrete design.
• Work with civil, electrical, mechanical, structural, and architectural professionals throughout the project life cycle.
• Assist with preliminary site and existing-conditions assessments and, occasionally, construction administration.
• Contribute to technical reports and specifications.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to ask questions and engage in technical discussions.
• Ability to travel locally for project assignments, team meetings, and site visits.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Availability for 40 hours per week during the summer internship period, with occasional overtime.

Nice to have

• Previous experience or training with Revit or AutoCAD.
• Understanding of drafting techniques and construction plan development.
• Coursework in steel and concrete design.
• Experience with MathCAD, RISA, or other structural analysis programs.
