Field Service Technician I (Telecommunications)

Location: Anchorage, Alaska, United States; onsite field work; remote work not eligible

What you will do

• Install, disconnect, reconnect, relocate, service, and repair video, voice, and high-speed data services.
• Install and troubleshoot telecommunications equipment, cabling, fiber optic, radio frequency, analog, microwave, and AC/DC components.
• Use monitoring and test equipment to measure signal strength, evaluate field conditions, and ensure service quality.
• Respond to outages, perform cable locates, maintenance, rewiring, equipment upgrades, and impairment mitigation.
• Communicate with customers onsite, explain equipment operation, complete work orders, collect signatures or payments, and present additional service offerings.
• Coordinate with dispatch, network technicians, senior technicians, and other departments while maintaining a company vehicle and inventory.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least six months of experience in a technical role or related background.
• Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, satisfactory driving record, and successful completion of Defensive Driving training.
• Ability to work outdoors and indoors in adverse weather, climb poles, ladders, and buckets up to 40 feet, and work in trenches and around electrical conductors and gas lines.
• Ability to lift up to 70 pounds occasionally and work flexible hours, including overtime, on-call shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency response.
• Ability to obtain required regulatory identification and complete applicable background checks, drug testing, and fitness-for-duty examinations when required.

Nice to have

• Associate degree in electronics or a related field, telecommunications trade school training, or equivalent education.
• Telecommunications experience or relevant industry certifications.
• Six months of experience living in an arctic environment, depending on the assigned location.
