Field Technician II (Telecommunications)

Location: Based out of the Memphis, Tennessee office and working in the field; candidates should reside within one hour of the Memphis metro area. Travel to job sites, overnight travel, outdoor work, and on-call coverage are required.

Salary: $19.52–$30.00 USD per hour, with possible shift differential pay for evening and overnight hours.

What you will do

• Install, commission, test, troubleshoot, and decommission telecommunications equipment and customer services.
• Work with SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP, and Ethernet-based systems, including Ciena, Nokia, Infinera, Juniper, and Cisco equipment.
• Perform OTDR, Ethernet, BER, SONET, optical power, and fiber testing.
• Maintain network infrastructure, critical facilities, fiber-optic patch cords, outdoor cabinets, buried cable, and outside plant networks.
• Complete site surveys, fiber audits, power audits, closeout documentation, and routine technical reports.
• Identify potential network problems, resolve complex issues, communicate with customers and contractors, and support less experienced technicians.

Requirements

• At least two years of experience in fiber-optic installation, maintenance, or a related technical field.
• Experience installing, testing, or turning up SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP, or Ethernet equipment.
• Working knowledge of fiber-optic systems, cabling, network infrastructure, and basic fiber-testing equipment such as power meters and OTDRs.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors, at heights, in confined spaces, varied terrain, and changing weather conditions; ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Valid state-issued driver's license, successful motor vehicle and background checks, and eligibility to operate a company vehicle.

Nice to have

• OTDR and C Power experience.
• Testing experience at 1G, 10G, 100G, or 400G.
• Experience with RFC2544, RFC6349 TrueSpeed, iPerf, or Y.1564.
• Familiarity with optical power meters, digital multimeters, fiber identifiers, and fiber scopes.
