Mechanical Engineering Intern

Location: Needham, Massachusetts, United States; full-time onsite, 5 days per week

Hourly pay: $27–$40 USD

What you will do

• Contribute to concepting and development of next-generation home products through brainstorming, sketching, and prototyping.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers to solve consumer and product-development challenges.
• Build, test, and iterate prototypes and laboratory rigs to validate performance, usability, and reliability.
• Analyze test data and consumer feedback to inform design decisions and improve product functionality.
• Support feasibility analysis, CAD modeling, technical documentation, design reviews, and root-cause investigations.
• Gain exposure to materials, mechanisms, manufacturing, electronics, and mass-production considerations.

Requirements

• Current student in a related bachelor's, master's, or PhD program, or graduated from one within the past year.
• Availability for a full-time, 40-hour-per-week schedule onsite in Needham, Massachusetts, five days per week.
• Strong foundation in mechanical engineering and physics, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, prioritization, and first-principles thinking skills.
• Hands-on experience developing and testing prototypes in plastic or metal, including use of basic machine-shop tools.
• Exposure to CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Creo, 3D printing or laser cutting, electronics, test equipment, and small-appliance components.

Nice to have

• Experience with developer kits and tools such as Python, Arduino, or Raspberry Pi.
