TL;DR
Fluid Component Intern Spring 2027 (Aerospace): Supporting the design and development of valves and actuators for oxidizer-rich staged combustion engines and medium-lift launch vehicles with an accent on engineering fundamentals, manufacturing, and component reliability. Focus on applying aerospace and mechanical engineering concepts, developing fluid component technologies, and solving real hardware challenges in a full-time onsite internship.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; full-time, onsite for at least 12 consecutive weeks beginning January, February, or March 2027

Salary: $28 USD per hour

What you will do

  • Support the Components team in designing second-generation fluid devices for future missions.
  • Contribute to the development of valves and actuators that manage fluid handling in launch vehicle propulsion systems.
  • Apply engineering and industry concepts to solve practical hardware challenges.
  • Collaborate with mentors, supervisors, and cross-functional engineering teams while providing progress updates.
  • Participate in technical talks and professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate program in aerospace, aeronautical, astronautical, or mechanical engineering.
  • Have at least one semester remaining after the internship and be able to work full-time onsite for at least 12 consecutive weeks.
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Have at least 3 months of applied engineering experience through internships, laboratories, or personal or team projects.
  • For work in the United States, meet applicable ITAR eligibility requirements, including U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, refugee or asylee status, or eligibility to obtain required government authorizations.

Nice to have

  • GPA of 3.5 or above and at least 6 months of applied engineering experience.
  • CAD/CAM, CNC, 3D printing, lathe, or GD&T experience.
  • Python or FEA experience.
  • Knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science, or physics.
