Mechanical Engineering Intern Spring 2027 (Aerospace)

Location: Silver Spring, Maryland, United States; full-time, on-site for at least 12 consecutive weeks beginning January, February, or March 2027.

Salary: $25.00 USD per hour; a relocation stipend may be available.

What you will do

• Support the Space Systems Division in producing flight mechanisms for separation systems.
• Apply engineering and industry concepts to solve real challenges with a fast-paced team.
• Work closely with a mentor and department employees to develop technical and professional skills.
• Participate in regular one-to-one meetings with mentors and supervisors and provide progress updates.
• Collaborate across teams and contribute to development projects.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate program in engineering, physics, or mathematics, with at least one semester remaining after the internship.
• GPA of 3.0 or above.
• At least 3 months of applied engineering experience through an internship, laboratory work, or personal/team projects.
• Must be able to work full-time on-site for a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks in early 2027.
• For U.S. office work, must meet applicable ITAR eligibility requirements, including qualifying U.S. citizenship, permanent residence, refugee or asylum status, or required government authorization.

Nice to have

• GPA of 3.5 or above.
• At least 6 months of applied engineering experience.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and Siemens NX.
• Experience with CAD/CAM, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, or machining.
• Python experience.
