Hardware R&D Engineering Intern (3D Printing)

What you will do

• Design, build, and test new 3D printing techniques and printer architectures.
• Validate improvements such as galvo control changes and support structure algorithms.
• Evaluate printer performance and identify opportunities to improve current products.
• Design and execute experiments, analyze results, and apply findings to software and hardware improvements.
• Solve open-ended problems across mechanical, systems, software, and process engineering.

Requirements

• Full-time onsite availability in Somerville, Massachusetts, from September 14 through December 18, 2026.
• A portfolio of previous engineering work or projects is required.
• Experience with experiment design and data analysis.
• Programming and scientific computing experience, ideally with Python or MATLAB.
• Familiarity with mechanical design, mechatronics, CAD modeling, and hands-on prototyping.
• Experience developing physics-based models of complex systems or working on consumer products.
