Chief Legal Officer (Healthcare)

Location: Remote within the state or states where the candidate is licensed to practice; U.S. jurisdiction required.

hirify.global operates a telepsychiatry platform providing psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ongoing behavioral healthcare across approximately 35 U.S. states.

What you will do

• Own legal and regulatory strategy for telemedicine prescribing, controlled substances, state practice rules, licensure, and telehealth consent requirements.
• Draft and negotiate management services agreements, IP licenses, equity arrangements, intercompany terms, payer agreements, and vendor contracts across the MSO and affiliated professional entities.
• Advise on HIPAA, state health privacy, data security, tracking technologies, healthcare marketing, consumer protection, TCPA, and medical-board advertising requirements.
• Govern AI-enabled clinical products, including Software as a Medical Device, clinical decision support, algorithmic nondiscrimination, crisis response, and clinician oversight.
• Set litigation strategy, manage outside counsel, lead government inquiries and investigations, and oversee litigation holds and insurance matters.
• Build the legal function through policies, playbooks, governance processes, workforce guidance, and diligence readiness.

Requirements

• J.D. and active good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, with eligibility for in-house or registered in-house counsel status in the state of residence.
• 12+ years of combined law-firm and in-house experience, including at least 5 years advising healthcare providers, digital health companies, or health systems.
• Primary experience with controlled-substance regulation, including the Ryan Haight Act and the post-public-health-emergency telemedicine landscape.
• Direct experience with MSO and friendly-PC structures, corporate practice of medicine, fee-splitting, HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules, and healthcare marketing compliance.
• Experience structuring clinician and vendor compensation under the Anti-Kickback Statute and EKRA, handling government inquiries, and advising on multi-state employment classification.
• Demonstrated experience building policies, playbooks, or a legal function from the ground up.

Nice to have

• Previous General Counsel or Chief Legal Officer experience at a healthcare company with 100–1,000 employees.
• Behavioral health, psychiatry, substance use disorder treatment, or 42 C.F.R. Part 2 experience.
• Government experience with DEA, HHS OIG, a U.S. Attorney's Office, an Attorney General's office, or a medical or pharmacy board.
• Healthcare payer contracting, privacy class-action defense, AI governance, or Software as a Medical Device experience.
• CIPP or CHC certification.
