Senior Process Engineer (Small Molecule/Oligo/Peptide)

Location: Kansas City, Missouri, USA; can be based near any hirify.global location, with a remote option considered

Salary: $103,125–$165,000 annually for candidates based in Denver; actual pay depends on location, qualifications, and experience.

What you will do

• Lead small molecule API process development, scale-up, manufacturing optimization, and process design activities.
• Develop process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, mass and energy balances, and technical reports.
• Conduct site assessments, gap analyses, feasibility studies, equipment selection, and facility design activities.
• Manage process scope, budget, schedule, design decisions, technical deliverables, and client communication.
• Coordinate with architecture, mechanical, electrical, construction, vendors, and other project disciplines.
• Support bid tabulations, vendor packages, factory acceptance testing, risk assessments, 3D model reviews, and functional specification reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical engineering or a related ABET-accredited discipline.
• At least 5 years of small molecule process engineering experience, preferably in consulting or client-facing work.
• Strong knowledge of chemical synthesis, purification, formulation, and small molecule API manufacturing equipment and utility systems.
• Experience with containment engineering controls for highly potent APIs and cGMP-regulated environments, including FDA, EMA, and ICH guidance.
• Experience with process design, engineering controls, regulatory guidance, building codes, and technical communication.
• Ability to work near a hirify.global location or be considered for the remote option.

Nice to have

• EIT or PE certification.
• Experience with commissioning, startup, qualification, troubleshooting, and validation documentation.
• Experience leading process engineers and coordinating design with external partners.
• Familiarity with process safety, HAZOP studies, and risk assessments.
