Associate Underwriter (AI)

Location: Richmond, VA, United States. US work authorization is required; visa sponsorship is not available.

Hourly salary: $26.10–$54.36, with eligibility for the annual incentive plan.

What you will do

• Review and process endorsement requests, including policy changes, coverage modifications, exposure updates, rating changes, and documentation corrections.
• Analyze renewal applications, exposures, loss runs, prior policy activity, pricing changes, and underwriting documentation.
• Apply underwriting guidelines, rating plans, coverage forms, delegated authority, and internal procedures.
• Coordinate with agents, brokers, underwriters, and internal teams to obtain information, resolve questions, and support timely policy issuance.
• Maintain underwriting files, monitor work queues, prioritize time-sensitive transactions, and escalate complex risks or pricing issues.
• Identify process gaps and improve workflow efficiency through the use of AI.

Requirements

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, insurance, risk management, finance, or a related field is preferred but not required.
• Experience in insurance, underwriting support, policy processing, customer service, or a related administrative role is preferred.
• Basic understanding of property and casualty insurance, policy forms, endorsements, renewals, rating, underwriting workflows, or legal contracts and documents.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, sound judgment, organization, and time management.
• Ability to communicate professionally, manage multiple priorities, follow established procedures, and recognize when referral is needed.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and policy administration or underwriting systems.

Nice to have

• Experience reviewing or processing insurance endorsements and renewals.
• Familiarity with underwriting authority levels, referral guidelines, loss run review, and account documentation standards.
• Experience working with agents, brokers, or carrier underwriting teams.
