Senior Underwriting Assistant (Commercial Insurance)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; primarily office-based

Salary: $59,000–$68,000 annual base salary for positions based in Illinois, plus eligibility for a bonus under the applicable incentive plan.

What you will do

• Support the regional Underwriting Assistant Manager and serve as the first point of contact for underwriting assistants.
• Review new and renewal submissions against risk appetite criteria, identify missing information, and coordinate follow-up with brokers.
• Prepare policy writing instructions, premium billings, quotations, binders, endorsements, cancellations, and individual policy filings.
• Complete loss rating, initial pricing, basic coverage structuring, and documentation of material renewal changes.
• Perform quality control of policies, endorsements, manual ratings, premium audit statements, and adjustments.
• Support underwriting reports and procedures, train less experienced staff, and participate in broker or client meetings and other projects.

Requirements

• Knowledge of commercial insurance policy forms and regulatory requirements.
• 3+ years of commercial insurance experience.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with the ability to navigate multiple computer systems.
• Strong problem-solving, prioritization, attention-to-detail, client-servicing, and learning-agility skills.
• Ability to mentor peers and provide oversight to less experienced support staff.
