Project Engineer - Stress (Aerospace)

Location: Belfast, United Kingdom. Occasional travel within the UK is required.

What you will do

• Provide technical support and guidance to core and subcontract stress engineering teams working on composite and metallic aircraft structures.
• Lead stress activities supporting structural design development, certification, static strength, fatigue, and damage tolerance.
• Support technical definition, project planning, budgets, programme milestones, and schedule adherence.
• Interact with customers and certification authorities to ensure compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.
• Review and approve drawings, DDS documentation, certification reports, test specifications, and test result assessments.
• Coordinate with design, loads, materials, manufacturing, and test engineering disciplines during design reviews and structural development.

Requirements

• Degree-qualified with a BSc/BEng in Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent discipline and at least 3 years of relevant stress engineering experience; alternatively, an HNC/HND and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• Experience sizing primary aircraft structures made from both metallic and composite materials.
• Experience using classical stress analysis methods and finite element analysis for composite and metallic structures.
• Experience supporting delegation for approval of stress drawings and certification reports.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure while delivering stress analysis work packages to programme milestones.
• Successful candidates must undergo BPSS and Export Control checks, including a criminal record check.

Nice to have

• Experience with hirify.global stress methods, ISAMI, Bombardier Goliath, NASGRO, hirify.global finite element modelling rules, or A220/C-Series programmes.
• Experience developing global and local finite element models and validating results against certification test data.
• Experience with aircraft wing structural sizing, supplier or engineering service provider teams, and structural certification test requirements.
