TL;DR
Principal Safety and Reliability Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and supporting safety design for mission- and safety-critical aerospace equipment with an accent on reliability analysis, certification requirements, and technical risk management. Focus on performing FMEA and FTA, decomposing safety and reliability requirements, validating compliance with aerospace standards, and guiding design decisions through product development and investigations.

Location: Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England, UK. Flexible working options, including hybrid home/office working, may be considered where possible. Candidates must be able to work in the UK without restrictions and successfully complete the required level of UK National Security Vetting.

What you will do

  • Act as a technical arbiter and project focal point for safety and reliability activities.
  • Write safety and reliability plans and perform analyses independently.
  • Influence system design and decompose safety and reliability requirements across project teams.
  • Assess technical risk and the impact of design decisions, highlighting concerns and supporting design changes.
  • Work with customers and lead engineers to define approaches, timeframes, and requirements.
  • Present autonomously at design reviews and support bids, proposals, and aircraft incident investigations.

Requirements

  • Extensive, in-depth experience in aerospace safety and reliability.
  • Experience with aerospace safety design and assessment, including FMEA and FTA.
  • Knowledge of aerospace safety and certification requirements, SAE ARP4761/ARP4754, DO-160, DO-178, and DO-254.
  • Experience with MIL-HDBK-217 reliability calculations and alternatives.
  • Ability to assess and manage technical risk, communicate technical issues accurately, and oversee and approve other engineers' work.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques used for aerospace electronics and willingness to participate in aircraft incident investigations.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with aerospace materials and components.
  • Experience with PCB design, EMC techniques, or system design practice.
