Staff Research Scientist, Intern - PhD Quantum (Quantum Computing)

Location: Foster City, California, United States; at least 3 days per week in the office

What you will do

• Conduct applied and fundamental research in quantum computing and information technologies.
• Develop research approaches involving quantum algorithms, applications, machine learning, optimization, cryptography, and simulations.
• Explore solutions for fraud detection, risk modeling, secure transactions, and large-scale financial data analysis.
• Collaborate with technology and product teams, business partners, academics, and government organizations.
• Present project achievements and recommendations to organizational leaders at the end of the 12-week internship.
• Use emerging technologies, including generative AI tools, to support everyday work.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Ph.D. with an expected graduation date in December 2027 or later.
• Research experience demonstrated through publications, patents, or conference presentations.
• Knowledge of quantum computing, applied quantum physics, quantum machine learning, optimization, simulations, AI, data analytics, or large language models.
• Proficiency in object-oriented programming with Python, C++, or Java.
• Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, problem-solving, teamwork, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to work in an office at least 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with deep learning, machine learning, generative AI, or large language models.
• Ability to innovate, adapt to change, and deliver results collaboratively in dynamic environments.
