Senior Software Engineer (Research)

Location: College Park, MD, US; hybrid

Salary: $130,000–$180,000 per year, depending on experience and relevant skills.

What you will do

• Develop research ideas and prototypes into correct, maintainable, and fast software.
• Implement reliable and optimized decoding algorithms for colleagues and customers.
• Extend software tools for quantum simulation, QEC decoding, and analysis.
• Collaborate with researchers, mathematicians, physicists, and engineers across teams.
• Contribute to research code, internal tools, production software, and the wider QEC stack.

Requirements

• Proficiency in C++ and Python.
• Experience with collaborative programming and software engineering practices.
• Experience with CI/CD, containers, version control, and static and dynamic code analysis.
• Strong problem-solving, written communication, and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with an interest in quantum computing.

Nice to have

• Experience shipping software to users.
