TL;DR
Neuromorphic/AI Research Scientist (Neuromorphic Computing/Edge AI): Advancing neuromorphic processor technology by designing algorithms, software artifacts, architectures, and benchmarks for robotics, signal processing, control, and edge computing with an accent on sparsity, quantization, latency, memory footprint, and energy optimization. Focus on prototyping research ideas, translating algorithmic requirements into hardware specifications, and rigorously evaluating real-world AI systems through baselines and ablation studies.

Location: Hybrid role based at an hirify.global site in the United States, with primary location in Santa Clara, California, and additional locations in Phoenix, Arizona; Folsom, California; Hillsboro, Oregon; and Austin, Texas.

Annual salary: $170,500–$315,490 USD

What you will do

  • Design and analyze neuromorphic AI algorithms for robotics, signal processing, control, and learning on edge platforms.
  • Develop research-quality APIs, kernels, benchmarking tools, experimental pipelines, and software artifacts.
  • Prototype and evaluate approaches under quantization, sparsity, memory, latency, and energy constraints.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software engineering teams to translate algorithmic requirements into hardware specifications.
  • Build benchmarks with baseline and ablation studies, and communicate results through documentation, customer prototypes, and publications.
  • Present technical findings and contribute to thought leadership in neuromorphic computing.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent research experience in computational neuroscience, computer science, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, robotics, or a related field.
  • At least one project demonstrating the conversion of research ideas into working prototypes with rigorous evaluation.
  • At least three publications in leading AI/ML, edge computing, robotics, or control journals or conferences.
  • At least two years of experience with state-of-the-art AI models, optimization, and control/dynamical systems, signal processing, or probabilistic inference.
  • Scientific programming experience with Python or C/C++, including object-oriented design, testing, debugging, documentation, version control, and code reviews.

Nice to have

  • Open-source releases or widely used internal libraries and strong technical writing skills.
  • Experience with edge AI hardware accelerators, event-based sensors, quantization, and low-precision arithmetic.
  • Experience developing robotics or real-time control software and performant systems-language components.
  • Experience profiling and benchmarking algorithms and hardware architectures.
  • Hardware architecture and design experience.
