Primary Design Engineer – High-Voltage Substations (HV)

Location: The Netherlands; open to candidates currently based in Spain. Hybrid working is possible, with occasional visits to substations, project locations, or clients.

Salary: €4,000–€6,000 gross per month, depending on knowledge and experience.

Multidisciplinary engineering environment delivering projects for Dutch energy infrastructure, from substation extensions and modernisation to complete new installations.

What you will do

• Design primary electrical installations for medium- and high-voltage substations.
• Develop substation layouts, equipment arrangements, and engineering and construction work packages.
• Select and specify transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, instrument transformers, busbars, cables, and other primary HV equipment.
• Translate technical and client requirements into practical engineering solutions and evaluate supplier proposals.
• Review engineering packages and coordinate interfaces with Secondary, Civil, Structural, and BIM disciplines.
• Check designs for technical quality, safety, and constructability, and provide support during procurement, construction, and commissioning.

Requirements

• University-level qualification in electrical, industrial, mechanical, or comparable engineering; relevant Spanish qualifications are accepted.
• Approximately 5 or more years of relevant experience with medium- or high-voltage installations and electrical or electromechanical substation design.
• Experience with AIS and/or GIS substations, primary HV equipment, substation layouts, transformers, switchgear, and technical specifications.
• Experience with 132 kV, 220 kV, or 400 kV projects in Spain is highly relevant; experience with Dutch grid operator standards is not required.
• Experience in multidisciplinary engineering projects and utility, EPC, or engineering consultancy environments.
• Good working English is required; Dutch is not required when joining.

Nice to have

• AutoCAD and/or 3D/BIM engineering experience.
• Experience coordinating engineering activities or taking technical responsibility for defined project scopes.
