TL;DR
Advanced AMO Theorist (Quantum Computing): Designing next-generation large-scale quantum computers based on QCCD architecture, quantum error correction, and scalable hardware technologies with an accent on system-level requirements, quantum operation simulation, and architecture performance analysis. Focus on modeling quantum systems, integrating photonics and microfabrication technologies, and defining high-level subsystem designs for improved qubit count, runtime, and circuit fidelity.

Location: Broomfield, Colorado, United States. Workplace: On-site. Candidates must be U.S. Persons and must not be nationals of China or Russia unless they are also U.S. citizens.

Salary: $130,000–$170,000 annually.

What you will do

  • Conceptualize large-scale quantum computers with the hardware architecture team.
  • Analyze candidate architectures and define system-level, subsystem, and technology requirements.
  • Simulate quantum operations, including gates, measurements, readout, and cooling.
  • Work with subsystem teams to identify technology insertions into the architecture.
  • Communicate technical findings and design proposals to technical, management, and executive audiences.
  • Develop and oversee scientific practices across the architecture team.

Requirements

  • PhD completed before starting the role.
  • At least five years of relevant experience, including experience in quantum information, ion trapping, qubits, atomic physics, numerical simulation, spectroscopy, optics, vacuum systems, electronics, cryogenics, lasers, photonics, or physical sciences laboratory work.
  • U.S. Person status is required, including U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, green card status, asylum or refugee status.
  • U.S. government national security requirements apply; candidates must not be nationals of China or Russia unless also U.S. citizens.
  • Experience with QCCD architecture, quantum error correction, experimental limitations, and quantum computing use cases.
  • Understanding of photonics, microfabrication, ASICs, and ultra-high-vacuum systems.

Nice to have

  • Experience leading quantum information processing device design or operation.
  • Eight or more years in scientific research and development, engineering, or leadership.
  • Experience with quantum-system modeling, error-correcting codes, quantum algorithms, laser cooling and trapping, and experiment simulation.
  • Experience with control systems, signal processing, experiment design, and optimization.
  • Published research and strong written and oral communication skills.
