Payroll Specialist (Spanish Payroll)

Location: Barcelona, Spain; hybrid with 3 mandatory office days per week

What you will do

• Own the end-to-end Spanish payroll cycle for approximately 90 employees, including input collection, payslip checks, reconciliations, salary payments, taxes, and social contributions.
• Respond to payroll queries and provide clear, timely support to employees.
• Coordinate external payroll and benefits providers across Spain, the UK, Germany, and France.
• Automate People Operations workflows such as onboarding, offboarding, and employee changes using Workday and AI tools.
• Maintain consistent data across HR, payroll, finance, and accounting systems and build dashboards for key metrics.
• Partner with HRBPs, recruiters, Finance, Legal, and IT to support the employee lifecycle.

Requirements

• 4–5+ years of hands-on Spanish payroll processing experience.
• Strong understanding of Spanish social security, tax requirements, and employment legislation.
• Experience working with external payroll providers and managing payroll stakeholders.
• Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent English communication skills and Spanish proficiency.
• Individual contributor able to work in a hybrid setup with 3 mandatory office days per week in Barcelona.

Nice to have

• Experience with Workday or Papaya Global.
• Exposure to UK, German, or French payroll.
• Degree in HR, Payroll, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
