Corporate Counsel, Pacific (Core+ Australia)

Location: Melbourne, Australia; primarily office-based

What you will do

• Provide end-to-end legal and regulatory support to Pacific operations across Australia and New Zealand.
• Review, draft, negotiate, and approve insurance policy wordings, schedules, endorsements, and customer-facing materials.
• Advise on broker-led and manuscript wordings, distribution models, binder agreements, and other third-party arrangements.
• Advise on insurance law, the Corporations Act, the Insurance Contracts Act, financial services laws, APRA and ASIC matters, and regulatory expectations.
• Support premium funding, policy cancellation matters, company secretarial work, and complex matters requiring external counsel.
• Work with underwriters, brokers, corporate clients, business partners, and legal colleagues across Australia and globally.

Requirements

• Valid rights to work in Australia required; employer sponsorship is not available.
• Law degree or tertiary legal qualification and an unrestricted Australian practising certificate.
• Proven post-qualified senior legal experience in-house or in private practice, with general insurance experience.
• Strong understanding of general insurance, Australian privacy law including the APPs, contract law, and financial services law.
• Experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating policy wordings, endorsements, schedules, binder agreements, or distribution arrangements.
• Strong drafting, problem-solving, stakeholder management, judgement, and confidentiality-handling skills.
