Principal Compliance Engineer (Product Export Compliance & Classification)

What you will do

• Lead export classifications for software, hardware, technology, and related services under the EAR and ITAR.
• Analyze product architecture, source code concepts, encryption, cryptanalysis, cybersecurity, data recovery, and digital forensics capabilities.
• Prepare ECCN determinations, mass market analyses, USML assessments, and classification documentation.
• Manage CCATS submissions, Commodity Jurisdiction requests, encryption filings, BIS and DDTC license applications, TAAs, and regulatory correspondence.
• Partner with engineering, architecture, product management, and release teams to identify changes requiring reclassification, licensing, or government notification.
• Develop export-control governance, review processes, decision trees, controls, training, and audit support.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, cybersecurity, information security, or a related technical field.
• 5–7+ years of experience in export controls, trade compliance, or regulatory compliance for advanced technology products.
• Demonstrated experience classifying software, encryption products, cybersecurity tools, digital forensic products, or similar technical technologies.
• Direct experience with EAR, ITAR, ECCN classification, CCATS submissions, Commodity Jurisdiction requests, BIS licensing, and DDTC licensing.
• Ability to understand technical specifications, engineering documentation, software architecture diagrams, and source code concepts.
• Strong knowledge of cryptography, encryption technologies, cryptanalysis, cybersecurity, or digital forensics.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in engineering, cybersecurity, computer science, law, or a related field.
• Experience with digital forensics, lawful access technologies, cyber investigation tools, or intelligence-related software.
• Experience partnering with software engineering teams in an agile environment.
• Licensed attorney, Certified Export Specialist, or another trade compliance certification.
