Principal Mission Architect (SSC/Space Force)

Location: Remote within the United States; travel to the Mountain View facility is required for in-person meetings, build, and test. Applicants must satisfy U.S. export-control eligibility requirements and be authorized to access controlled information.

Salary: $174,000–$250,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop complete mission concepts based on customer needs.
• Lead mission-level analyses and own top-level mission budgets.
• Define mission and payload requirements and design practical spacecraft architectures.
• Use software tools and code to conduct engineering trade studies and answer system design questions.
• Evaluate spacecraft performance and constellation configurations.
• Coordinate with discipline engineers, scientists, customers, and the instrument design team to meet mission objectives.

Requirements

• B.S. or higher degree in a related engineering field and 12 years of experience working with space missions; relevant advanced degrees may count toward experience.
• Spacecraft design and space mission design experience.
• Software skills in one or more of Python, Julia, Matlab, C, or C++.
• Excellent communication, presentation, coordination, and analytical decision-making skills.
• Active TS/SCI clearance.
• Eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled information as a U.S. person, through an applicable exemption, or through likely approval of the required export authorization.

Nice to have

• Experience delivering or sustaining space-based capabilities for core Space Force missions.
• Experience supporting science teams in mission development.
• Constellation design and spacecraft or constellation operations experience.
