Principal Systems Engineer (Defense)

Location: USA (Remote); possible locations include Ashburn, Virginia, Boston, Massachusetts, and Nashua, New Hampshire.

Salary: $144,100–$190,000 per year plus bonus.

What you will do

• Lead large technical teams in meeting complex customer requirements.
• Represent the organization as a technical expert for customers, suppliers, and management.
• Synthesize requirements into low-risk system solutions.
• Produce technical documentation for customers and engineering teams.
• Provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams and report technical status and recommended paths forward.
• Support team development by recommending training and evaluating technical performance.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience with US Department of Defense prime contractors or companies directly supporting them.
• Experience with hardware and software development, integration, and testing for deployed military vehicle applications.
• Expertise with DOORS and Cameo; working knowledge of ClearQuest, JIRA, and Rational development tools.
• Ability to operate and debug Linux- and VxWorks-based computing systems.
• Knowledge of SOSA and VPX standards, serial communication protocols, Ethernet, PCIe, and USB.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or electrical engineering preferred; strong troubleshooting, leadership, and problem-solving skills required.

Nice to have

• Experience with System Safety Assessment, Functional Hazard Assessment, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis.
• Experience with RTCA/DO-254, DO-178, and FAA certification processes.
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
