Technical AI Requirements Systems Engineer (Mid/Senior) (Hybrid) - Java/JavaScript/AI/ML

Location: Hybrid in Annapolis Junction, Maryland, United States; candidates must be U.S. citizens and hold a current Top Secret/SCI U.S. Government security clearance with a favorable polygraph.

Annual salary: $130,000–$270,000, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Support planning, design, implementation, testing, and delivery of a mission-critical enterprise application with AI-enabled capabilities.
• Work with customers, systems engineers, developers, and AI stakeholders to define and validate software capabilities.
• Elicit, analyze, and document functional requirements, then convert them into technical specifications.
• Translate high-level requirements into Jira user stories and epics for development teams.
• Perform hands-on technical execution and functional validation of new application features.
• Present AI approaches, tradeoffs, and implementation implications to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Current Top Secret/SCI U.S. Government security clearance with a favorable polygraph.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; a master’s degree may substitute for two years of experience.
• At least five years of experience in a Lead Systems Engineer role for a software development team.
• Experience with Java or JavaScript frameworks, RESTful microservices, and AWS cloud architecture and deployment.
• Experience with functional testing, requirements engineering, Agile delivery, and cross-functional technical collaboration.

Nice to have

• Experience designing or refining technical artifacts for AI integration.
• Ability to evaluate AI architectures, assess model performance, and identify system-level integration tradeoffs.
• Experience coordinating AI-driven solutions from conception through deployment.
• Awareness of current AI and machine learning advancements and their practical enterprise applications.
