Principal AI Architect (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Austin, Texas, United States

Total compensation: $240,000–$300,000 annually, including base salary and bonus

What you will do

• Own system design for production agentic AI capabilities, including orchestration, context, state, memory, tool boundaries, and reliability patterns.
• Write technical design reviews, design documents, and standards that guide architecture across engineering teams.
• Prototype architectural decisions before large-scale implementation.
• Partner with Data Science to integrate models and agents with APIs, event streaming, storage, and platform services.
• Review engineering architecture proposals, communicate trade-offs to executives and customers, and build cross-team consensus.
• Mentor senior and staff engineers and help drive AI-assisted and agentic development practices.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including senior, staff, principal architect, or technical lead experience designing production systems.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, service boundaries, consistency models, event-driven architecture, REST APIs, and reliable operation at scale.
• Production experience with agentic or LLM-powered systems, including agent loops, context engineering, MCP, tool or function calling, RAG, memory, state management, reliability, and guardrails.
• Working knowledge of data modeling, pipeline design, and streaming versus batch processing.
• Strong technical writing, design-review, influence, mentorship, and executive communication skills.
• Comfort operating as a senior individual contributor and driving outcomes through prototyping and technical credibility.

Nice to have

• Experience with multi-agent orchestration, supervisor and sub-agent architectures, and agent handoffs.
• Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Kafka, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, or ArgoCD.
• Experience adopting AI-assisted or agentic development across an engineering organization.
• Experience partnering with Data Science or ML teams and a cybersecurity industry background.
