Senior Android Software Engineer (Android)

Location: Hybrid in Durham, United States; only candidates local to the posting location will be considered.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance Android SDKs and on-device services, with iOS work as the cross-platform footprint grows.
• Improve package-manager reliability, dynamic app delivery, installation success, and recovery paths across fragmented devices and operating systems.
• Partner with OEM and carrier integration teams to deliver features within platform, privacy, and resource constraints.
• Extend on-device surfaces for alternative distribution and brand-on-device experiences.
• Own the full lifecycle of services, including instrumentation, alerting, rollout strategy, A/B experimentation, monitoring, and on-call support.
• Improve code quality through reviews, automated testing, tooling, and mentoring on mobile engineering practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building production mobile software, with deep Android expertise in Kotlin or Java and working knowledge of native internals.
• Experience with asynchronous programming, concurrency, memory and battery profiling, data structures, and mobile design patterns.
• Experience shipping SDKs, libraries, or framework-level code consumed by other developers.
• Experience operating software in production at scale, including monitoring, debugging field issues, and staged rollouts.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, autonomous, outcome-oriented team.
• Must be local to Durham, United States, for the hybrid work environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with AdTech, mobile measurement and attribution, or on-device machine learning inference.
• Familiarity with OEM and carrier preload constraints, Android system apps, or device-management contexts.
• Exposure to alternative app stores or in-app purchase and payment flows.
• Experience with iOS and Swift or Objective-C.
