Staff Optical Engineer (Semiconductor Inspection)

Salary: $141,300–$207,233 annually

What you will do

• Develop optical system requirements with suppliers and internal marketing, technology, and systems engineering teams.
• Propose subsystem architectures and translate requirements into optical features, error budgets, and metrology needs.
• Design optical parts, modules, tooling, and system integration processes for wafer inspection products.
• Conduct optical feasibility studies and model the performance of as-built systems.
• Test, qualify, and release optics, opto-mechanical modules, and complete optical subsystems.
• Resolve complex issues in prototype and released systems and improve incoming material quality with suppliers.

Requirements

• Doctorate with 3 years, master's degree with 6 years, or bachelor's degree with 8 years of related experience.
• Strong background in imaging aberrations, Fourier optics, polarization, radiometry, and related optical engineering disciplines.
• Experience developing complex, high-precision optical imaging or measurement system architectures.
• Experience with error budgets, alignment, metrology, and opto-mechanical assembly using CodeV or LightTools.
• Proficiency in MATLAB or Python for image processing and data analysis.
• Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, communication, and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with multidisciplinary hardware technologies and high-complexity optical systems.
• Willingness to travel internationally up to 15%.
