Project Architect (Pharmaceutical Life Sciences)

Location: Toledo, OH, US; periodic regional site visits are required, with minimal travel.

Salary: $120,000–$160,000 per year, depending on location, education, relevant experience, and specialized licensure or certifications. Additional leadership incentives and bonus opportunities may be available.

What you will do

• Lead architectural design and planning for cGMP manufacturing suites, pilot plants, laboratories, warehouses, and utility facilities.
• Provide technical leadership and oversee coordinated construction documents across project phases.
• Coordinate architectural work with engineering, process, validation, commissioning, project management, and preconstruction teams.
• Interpret and apply IBC, IFC, IMC, NFPA, ADA, ABA, GMP, and related regulatory requirements.
• Lead peer reviews, quality control, constructability reviews, cleanroom detailing, and contamination-control strategies.
• Present design concepts and compliance strategies to clients, support proposals, mentor architects, and conduct field observations and site visits.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture from an accredited program.
• Active U.S. Registered Architect license in good standing, with the ability to obtain reciprocity if needed.
• 10+ years of architectural experience focused on pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences facilities.
• Strong knowledge of cGMP regulations, ISPE Baseline Guides, laboratory and pharmaceutical occupancy codes, and hazardous-material control areas.
• Experience leading design teams through programming, concept design, construction administration, and commissioning support in a design-build environment.
• Proficiency in Revit and BIM workflows; knowledge of cleanroom HVAC principles and architectural envelope requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with commissioning, qualification, and validation processes, including DQ and IQ.
• Knowledge of LEED or Green Globes certification and high-performance building strategies.
• NCARB certification and eligibility for registration in multiple states.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, and fast-track pharmaceutical design-build projects.
