Lead Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) (AI)

Location: San Francisco; Remote (US). Location type: On-site

What you will do

• Own test strategy and build reliable automated coverage for desktop, mobile, backend services, integrations, and critical user journeys.
• Choose the right mix of unit, integration, and end-to-end tests and integrate automated checks into CI/CD release gates.
• Investigate real-world voice workflows, permissions, device and network changes, cross-application behavior, and software updates.
• Prioritize testing by risk, analyze failures and telemetry, and make clear release recommendations based on customer impact.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, design, and support from planning through launch to improve coverage and prevent escaped defects.
• Set QA standards, coach testing partners, and coordinate coverage while remaining hands-on with testing.

Requirements

• Experience owning testing for complex software and building or maintaining automated test suites.
• Ability to write readable test code, build fixtures and test harnesses, debug failures, and maintain reliable CI automation.
• Systems-level understanding across clients, APIs, operating systems, devices, and integrations.
• Strong investigation skills, including reproducing bugs, using logs and evidence, and separating product failures from test or environment failures.
• Product-minded attention to usability, responsiveness, accessibility, trust, and user-impacting risks.
• Clear communication, coaching ability, and experience leading hands-on quality work.

Nice to have

• Experience with native applications, audio, speech recognition, or AI output evaluation.
