Software Engineer I (Scala)

Location: Hybrid in Lisbon, Portugal; legally authorized to work in the EU

Salary: €43,000–€54,000 gross per year

What you will do

• Complete comprehensive software development tasks using established engineering practices.
• Build and maintain scalable web applications and customer engagement platform features.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to evaluate problems and develop effective solutions.
• Improve existing processes and anticipate technical or delivery roadblocks.
• Estimate effort, manage expectations, and progressively take on more complex work.
• Participate in on-call responsibilities.

Requirements

• 1–3 years of relevant software development experience.
• Familiarity with building scalable web applications.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, ideally Scala or Java.
• Exposure to Elasticsearch, Postgres, or similar technologies.
• Fluent English in verbal and written communication.
• Legal authorization to work in the EU.

Nice to have

• Experience with end-to-end, integration, or performance testing.
• Exposure to enterprise systems.
• Experience in a company with a strong US presence.
