Director, Project & Portfolio Management Office (Healthcare)

Location: Remote, 100% off site; role associated with Boston, Massachusetts, United States

Salary: $181,200–$199,300 per year

What you will do

• Lead the Project and Portfolio Management Office and establish enterprise standards for project intake, prioritization, governance, execution, reporting, and continuous improvement.
• Direct initiative evaluation, business-case review, portfolio prioritization, capacity planning, workload balancing, and resource allocation.
• Oversee project lifecycle practices, including planning, budgeting, risk and issue management, dependency tracking, change control, status reporting, and closeout.
• Partner with senior leaders, operational stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, and external partners to align initiatives with institutional strategy.
• Build project management capability through coaching, mentoring, training, educational resources, and DFCI Project University classes.
• Supervise, hire, develop, and evaluate a team of 10+ technical project management professionals.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, information systems, project management, public health, operations management, or a related field.
• At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in project management, portfolio management, PMO leadership, or related operational leadership.
• At least 5 years of people management experience.
• Experience leading project intake, prioritization, governance, resource planning, and portfolio reporting.
• Strong knowledge of project, program, and portfolio management methodologies, governance models, reporting tools, analytics, risk management, and executive communication.
• PMP, PgMP, PfMP, PMI-ACP, Lean, Six Sigma, or comparable certification required.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree.
• Experience in healthcare, academic medicine, research, or other highly matrixed and regulated environments.
• Experience managing technology-enabled, operational, and cross-functional strategic initiatives.
