Director, Engineering - Title Automation - Remote (AI)

Location: Remote within the USA; Santa Ana, California

Salary: $197,200–$263,000 annually

What you will do

• Own the strategy, architecture, and delivery of the data and document intelligence platform for title insurance documents.
• Lead expansion of the AI-powered Sequoia title automation platform across order types, geographies, and production scenarios.
• Define architecture standards for document processing, event-driven pipelines, data modeling, ML lifecycle management, and enterprise AI platforms.
• Establish responsible AI practices covering evaluation frameworks, ground-truth governance, deployment standards, drift detection, and human accountability.
• Partner with Product, Data Science, Title Operations, Security, Privacy, and Governance teams on investment decisions and production outcomes.
• Lead engineering managers and senior individual contributors while owning hiring, development, succession, delivery, reliability, and operational excellence.

Requirements

• Experience owning strategy, architecture, and operational outcomes for a large-scale production data or AI platform.
• Deep knowledge of distributed data processing, data lakes and lakehouses, cloud warehouses, event-driven architecture, ingestion, orchestration, and production pipelines.
• Experience with document intelligence, unstructured data extraction, or ML-based data processing at production scale.
• Technical fluency in AI/ML lifecycle management, cloud infrastructure, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, security, governance, data quality, and cost management.
• Experience modernizing complex data environments and migrating business-critical workloads without disrupting consumers.
• Experience leading distributed teams through engineering and people managers, with strong executive communication and change leadership.

Nice to have

• Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, Unity Catalog, MLflow, or comparable data and ML governance tooling.
• Knowledge of open table formats, data catalogs, lineage, semantic modeling, data contracts, and lifecycle management.
• Experience designing AI platforms for data science, machine learning, data products, and AI-enabled experiences.
• Background in financial services, insurance, real estate, or other highly regulated industries.
