Mechanical Engineer IV (HVAC)

Location: Must be within commuting distance of Raleigh, NC, or willing to relocate to the United States; hybrid schedule with three days per week in the office.

What you will do

• Lead the mechanical discipline scope, budget, scheduling, and design activities across studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
• Design HVAC, mechanical utility, piping, and related building systems, including load calculations, utility assessments, energy modeling, equipment selection, specifications, P&IDs, and installation details.
• Develop design reports, code evaluations, narratives, construction drawing packages, and technical specifications for complex projects.
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, clients, construction managers, subcontractors, vendors, manufacturers, and trade partners to deliver constructible designs.
• Lead field surveys, construction support, RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch lists, progress reports, commissioning, and startup activities.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and designers, lead mechanical project teams, and drive quality assurance and technical verification.

Requirements

• ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering with a mechanical focus.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience and professional engineer registration in good standing.
• Advanced experience with HVAC, mechanical utility, and piping system design, engineering calculations, and implementation.
• Advanced knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, fire, and building codes.
• Ability to coordinate complex projects with internal and external disciplines, construction partners, vendors, and manufacturers.
• Must be within commuting distance of Raleigh, NC or willing to relocate; in-office attendance is required three days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, laboratory, or food and beverage environments.
• Knowledge of GMP manufacturing environments and standards such as ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISPE, FDA, ISO, NFPA, and OSHA.
• Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and related BIM tools.
• Experience with sustainable design credentials or practices, including LEED or WELL.
• Experience with plumbing design, Revit plugins, Dynamo, Grasshopper, or Rhino.
